How Angiogenesis Became My Life’s Work — and Why It Matters Now More Than Ever

Hello there,
You may know me as the author of Eat To Beat Disease, but I am also the founder of the Angiogenesis Foundation.
The Angiogenesis Foundation is the leading nonprofit advancing health through angiogenesis, the process the body uses to grow new blood vessels. For more than 20 years, our work has championed breakthrough science that has led to treatments for cancer, vision loss, and wound healing—transforming millions of lives.
All this began when I studied under Dr. Judah Folkman, my mentor at Children’s Hospital in Boston.
He had a bold theory in the 1970s: that cutting off a tumor’s blood supply could stop cancer from growing.
Most people thought it was crazy.
But he was right. And I had the privilege of learning from him—of witnessing the power of science to change what’s possible.
That’s what inspired me to launch the Angiogenesis Foundation 30 years ago.
Since then, our work has supported 47 FDA-approved treatments for cancer, vision loss, and wound healing. But our mission goes far beyond medicine.
It’s about giving people real tools that help their bodies heal themselves. And that’s why we began our pioneering work in Food as Medicine.
Today, that mission has taken us to something you probably eat every week:
Blueberries 🫐
We are now researching which variety of blueberry is the most potent for cancer prevention.
We are measuring food potency with real science.
And I want you to be part of it.
Our goal is to raise $100,000 (research is super expensive).
I’m asking you to please consider donating $29 to support the research.
And as a thank you, I’ll gift you a $50 gift: my Elevate Your Metabolism course (normally $79 value).
You’ll also be invited to an exclusive donor-only Masterclass on Angiogenesis and Cancer Starving, hosted by me for our supporters.
Here’s your chance to get involved with Food as Medicine research that will make a real difference.
Dr. Folkman taught me that science can challenge convention.
That bold ideas can become breakthroughs.
Let’s take the next bold step on Food as Medicine together.
Thank you for supporting my cause.
With gratitude,
Dr. William Li
