New Year & Chef's Garden

Hello there,

With the start of the new year 2025, we’re thrilled to announce a revamp of our newsletter! We’ll be rolling out an updated format that delves into the fascinating world of angiogenesis and its many connections to health, disease, and innovation. Each week, you’ll find engaging series that highlight the Angiogenesis Foundation’s (AF) groundbreaking work, current research initiatives, and the latest advancements in the field. Here’s a sneak peek at the upcoming newsletter series:

  • The History of AF’s Research: Explore our Foundation’s groundbreaking milestones, including Dr. Judah Folkman’s discoveries, FDA-approved therapies like Avastin and Lucentis, and innovative projects like the interspecies medicine initiative.

  • Angiogenesis and Disease States: Learn how excessive angiogenesis drives diseases such as cancer and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), while insufficient angiogenesis contributes to conditions like ischemic heart disease and Alzheimer’s.

  • Angiogenesis in Physiological Processes: Uncover the science behind sprouting and splitting blood vessels, the role of bone marrow stromal cells in tissue repair, and exciting research on magnesium’s role in angiogenesis.

  • Biotech and Pharma Innovations: Stay informed about cutting-edge developments, including personalized peptide vaccines for glioblastoma, novel gene therapies for wet AMD, and the therapeutic potential of food bioactives like oats.

  • Food and Angiogenesis: Discover how diet patterns, antioxidants, and gut microbiome health support vascular growth and repair, and how regenerative farming aligns with health-focused research.

  • Spotlight on AF’s Activities: Celebrate our Foundation’s achievements, from collaborations to conference presentations, while staying connected to our mission.

As we embark on this exciting journey, we invite you to share your thoughts and suggestions. Together, let’s continue advancing the field of angiogenesis and making a meaningful impact.

Although the newsletter series will start next week, we do not want to leave you empty handed this week. Therefore, we would like to share a few words and pictures of our recent visit to The Chef's Garden and a tasty lentil soup recipe below.

Farmer Jones Farms at the Chef's Garden

A couple of weeks ago, we had the incredible opportunity to visit The Chef’s Garden in Ohio, a leader in sustainable and regenerative agriculture. During our visit, we dove deep into the fascinating world of regenerative farming, the importance of a healthy soil microbiome, and how these practices enhance the micronutrient profiles of vegetables grown on their farm.

One highlight of our visit was the chance to taste the farm’s vibrant harvest. From mini cucumber blossoms to carrot tops, garlic roots, and edible flowers with bold, unique flavors, every bite was a testament to the care and innovation behind their methods.

A special thank you to Rachael Ray, our new board member at the Angiogenesis Foundation, for the introduction and for inspiring us to explore this remarkable farm.

Take a look at our very own Dr. William Li as he tries Farmer Lee Jones's squeaking spinach and explains nitrate metabolism, which is abundant in spinach grown close to the soil.

Stay tuned as we continue to learn from pioneers like The Chef’s Garden, who are shaping the future of food and nutrition!
